An ingenious electronic mobility device which enables
those with disabilities to explore the world around them
independently.
For those with severe physical and mental disability the AKKA
can be the key to unlocking the world around them. The AKKA helps
the user to interact with their environment, progress development
of spatial awareness, as well as provide an introduction to power
wheelchairs at an early age.
The power to explore
AKKA comprises an electronically controlled mobile base which uses
photo-electric sensors to determine its course. It follows a
predetermined route marked out with black floor tape, which can
also be used as a perimeter fence, restricting the base to safe
areas within a room.
Through various input devices designed to stimulate curiosity,
the user is encouraged to make the association between their
actions and the resulting motion they experience. To further
encourage the user, the controls can be synchronised with an audio
device to activate music or sound effects.
Adapting to your needs
The AKKA can accommodate the user's existing standing frame,
wheelchairs, custom seating, bean bag and other types of equipment
with which the user may already be familiar.
